Church Clothes - Lecrae

I've met some Lecrae fans. I always wondered "Christian huh?"

In the first century, there were also Christians that were popular, be it by profession, entertainers, philosophers, prominence, or education. Paul questioned many of them.

However, he never questioned their faith, resolve, or intentions. He only questioned (and subsequently corrected) their, conduct.

And much like the 1st Century Christians, we live in a very influential world. In fact, just like God has his 'Holy spirit' to influence his servants - the World and it's ruler Satan, and its "Spirit of the World" - 1 Corinthians 2:12.

The real questions is, are we letting the 'spirit' of the world or the holy spirit influence our lives. Does God's Holy Spirit represent facets of modern music, fashion, attitudes, and style? Well, Romans 12:1,2 says "I entreat YOU by the compassions of God, brothers, to present YOUR bodies a sacrifice living, holy, acceptable to God (not man)...quit being fashioned after this system of things, but be transformed by making YOUR mind over, that YOU may prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God." And 1 Peter 1:14 "As obedient children, quit being fashioned according to the desires YOU FORMERLY had in YOUR ignorance."
I relate deeply here, as I sport tattoos as a former member of a drug cartel in the 90s. Before Christ was in my life. That was in my ignorance. I cannot believe that, that conduct, that lifestyle, with its mental attitude, style, clothing, music, and cultic characters, would ever lead me closer to Christ and God. Can you imagine listening to narco ballads with Christian lyrics as being acceptable to God? Would I be using God's Holy Spirit, or would the Spirit of the World be my influence? Thereby, would any real glory come to Christ?

While I'm not condemning Lecrae's art or expression, the feel and sound of such art, is a model of the world's rappers, not "a model [of Christ which we need] to follow his steps closely" with. Is the 'hip hop' world really about humbleness and giving?

Paul, the apostle, saw the corrupting influence his modern world had on some struggling, new, and sometimes weak Christians. So he exhorted them to,
"Strip off the old personality with its practices and clothe yourselves with the new [personality].. according to the IMAGE of the One who created it". That image, is what all true Christian 'entertainers' should strive for, not the world's image. - 1Colossians 3: 9,10. I don't mean to offend anyone fans of Lecrae. My source of knowledge however, the Bible, influences my opinion. And well, that is my opinion. Thanks for reading.
